Mr. Olusegun Omosehin is the Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive, National Insurance Commission, Nigeria. He is a multidisciplinary professional with over three decades of hands-on experience spanning strategic planning, risk management, transformational and organizational restructuring, and performance management in the insurance sector.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FIIN); a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (FIoD); and a Fellow of the Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria(FILAN).
Mr. Omosehinholds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science(1990); a Master of International Law and Diplomacy (MILD)1992; and an M.Sc. Economics(1999). He is an Alumnus of the Said Business School, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
Prior to his appointment in April 2024, he was the Chairman of theNigerian Insurers Association (NIA), the umbrella association of all insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, as well as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer ofOld Mutual Nigeria Life Assurance Company Limited, the Nigerian subsidiary ofthe Old Mutual Group, South Africa, a premium Pan Africanfinancial services group that offers a broad spectrum of financialsolutions in about 14Countries across Africa and China.
Before joining Old Mutual Group in January 2020, Mr. Omosehin was the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc(a publicly quoted insurance company) for about 10 years(from 2010 to 2019). And prior to his joining Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc in April 2010, he was the Managing Director/CEO of AIICO General Insurance Company Limited, the then general insurance arm of AIICO Insurance Plc.
Also, he was the MD/CEO of Admiral Insurance Company Limited between 2003 and 2007 before merging the company with Crusader Insurance Plc during the insurance consolidation exercise in 2007.
Mr. Omosehin was a member of the pioneer team that nurtured Custodian & Allied insurance Plc in 1995, where he worked for about nine years before his appointment as the MD/CEO of Admiral Insurance Limited in 2003. He Started his insurance career with Crusader Insurance (Nigeria) Plc in 1993 (then a specialist life assurance company).
His hobbies include reading and golfing.
Mohammed Garuba is a co-founder of CardinalStone Partners Limited, a full-fledged multi-strategy Investment Management Firm. He has 25+ years of broad experience in the investment management and financing industry; and currently serves in executive and technical advisory roles shaping real estate and infrastructure investment strategies. His expertise spans across the asset lifecycle covering deal screening, portfolio analysis and strategy, development, and asset management. Mohammed began his career in investment banking, transitioning later to real estate and infrastructure investing, where he has focused his efforts in the last two years. He is a founder and investor; and has founded and scaled several successful businesses.
Mohammed previously served as Managing Director in the Asset Management Division of CardinalStone. Prior to that, he served as pioneer Director of Equity Securities at Renaissance Capital where he was responsible for driving the company’s equities trading and sales business in Nigeria. Before joining Renaissance Capital, Mohammed served as Managing Director / Chief Operating Officer at Zenith Securities Limited, the wholly investment subsidiary of Zenith Bank Plc, where he oversaw strategy, deal origination and execution. He started his career with Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited (now Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc) as an Investment Manager.
Mohammed holds an MBA from London Business School and a B.Sc. in Insurance from the University of Lagos. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria, and the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals and an Associate of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, UK. His executive educational experience includes the Advanced Management Development Program of Harvard Graduate School of Design and an alumnus of Yale University and Harvard Kennedy School.
Mohammed is the Founder of Ansar Heritage Empowerment Foundation. He is passionate about boxing, football, golf and tennis. He enjoys farming, mentoring, reading, and volunteering.
Olaniyi Yusuf is the Managing Partner and Lead, Social Sector practice at Verraki Partners – a proudly African business solutions company partnering with enterprises and governments to accelerate the development and transformation of Africa. Prior his assumption of this role in April 2019, he was the Country Managing Director of Accenture Nigeria from 2010 to 2019. In 1995, he joined the Management Consulting Division of Arthur Andersen 4 years after starting his career at Joint Komputer Kompany, an indigenous computer company.
Olaniyi is a respected transformation manager with over 30years experience advising C-level executives across private and public sectors on navigating strategic change and digital transformation. He has been actively involved in the creation of key infrastructure for the Nigerian banking industry including the establishment of Interswitch, the CRC credit bureau, Unique Tax ID Number, Retail payments and the ongoing Banking Industry IT Shared Services including the Cash-less Lagos initiative, and Tier 3 Data Centre outsourcing.
Sumayya is the first female CEO of Takaful Insurance of Africa (TIA) having been appointed to office in August 2020. TIA is the first fully-fledged Takaful operator in East and Central Africa.
She is a lawyer, an Eisenhower Fellow, and an alumnus of the University of Nairobi, Lancaster University, the University of Bristol, the University of Oxford Säid Business School, and the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, a Master of Laws degree, and a Diploma in Law. She also holds an Advanced Management Diploma from the Oxford Säid Business School, a Certificate in Takaful, and a Stanford Seed Transformation Program Certificate from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
She has received several local and international awards including the Top 40 Under 40, Lifetime Achievement, Best CEO in Kenya, Outstanding Women Leadership Awards, 100 Most Influential Kenyan Muslims, 30 Most Inspirational African Muslim Women, Top 25 Most Influential CEOs Impacting Business, Top 60 Most Influential CEOs impacting the Economy, CEO of the Year and Best Woman CEO – Takaful.
She sits on several boards of listed and private companies, and the not-for-profit sector including Solargen Technologies, Safari Doctors, and Islamic Relief Kenya.
A youth and women empowerment champion, she has initiated various programs for the economic empowerment of youth and women. She is the Patron of the Muslim Deaf Association of Kenya, an organization that focuses on empowering the deaf and hearing impaired.

An insurance Professional with over two decades of hands -on an insurance practitioner and at the cutting edge of the insurance industry as a consultant, lecturer and trainer with different multinational companies and prestigious institutions.
His experience encompasses underwriting management, Takaful, developing risk appetite and managing international insurance programs, in addition to claims.
He possesses genuine professional knowledge and hands -on experience in the filed of takaful, which was reflected in his significant contribution to the “Principles of Takaful” book formerly used by the chartered insurance institute as the primary text book for their international Takaful course and his book: “Takaful: Technical & Operational Aspects”.
Seif has been involved in skills development throughout his career and has conducted courses and seminars in various areas of insurance companies’ institutions across the Africa and MENA region (Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Oman, UAE, KSA, Jordan, Kuwait, Nigeria Ghana, Kenya and Bahrain).
With over 27 years of leadership across Africa’s private, development, and educational sectors, Dr. Hassan Bashir has founded and scaled several companies spanning insurance, technology, healthcare, fintech, creator economy, and livestock farming. Bashir advises industry regulators, universities, MDBs, and private firms on insurance and risk management, climate risk, governance, and strategy. Bashir is an adjunct faculty teaching sustainable entrepreneurship, leadership, and governance at USIU-Africa’s Chandaria School of Business.
Bashir is currently a Senior Consultant on Climate Insurance and Governance aimed at De-Risking Agricultural Finance and Climate Resilience (DAFCR) that sits within the Agriculture Finance and Human and Social Development department of AfDB. He is one of the key resources in the design and development of The Africa Climate Risk Insurance Facility for Adaption (ACRIFA), a facility aiming to mobilize $1 billion of concessional, high-risk capital, and grants to de-risk private sector investments geared toward the development and uptake of climate insurance solutions for the Agri-Food Sector in Africa.
Bashir also is a member of the eminent High-Level Panel (HLP) on Closing the Climate Protection Gap that sits at the Centre of Disaster Protection (CDP) in London.
Zubairu S. Darazo is an astute insurer and Islamic finance professional with a wealth of experience spanning insurance underwriting, regulation, pension fund management, and general administration. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s Degree in Islamic Banking, Finance, and Management from the University of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. He is also pursuing a PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
Zubairu’s career at the National Insurance Commission of Nigeria (NAICOM) began in 2012, where he serves as the Head of Market Conduct and Policy. He has played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s Islamic finance landscape, contributing significantly to the development of key regulatory frameworks, including the NAICOM Takaful Operational Guidelines of 2013 and the Microinsurance Guidelines of 2018. His work has extended to research on the prospects and challenges of Takaful within the Nigerian economy.
Before joining NAICOM, Zubairu was instrumental in pioneering Takaful, travel, and microinsurance products during his tenure as Head of the Special Product Unit at Unitykapital Assurance Plc (now Veritaskapital) from 2009 to 2012. He also led business growth initiatives as the Pioneer Branch Head of Apt Pension Fund Administrators Ltd (now Tangerine Apt Pension Administrators Ltd) in Bauchi State from 2007 to 2009.
A member of several professional bodies, Zubairu’s achievements include publishing the book “Understanding Takaful (Islamic Insurance) in Nigeria” and contributing to the development of the National Non-interest Finance (Taxation) regulation under the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in 2021. His expertise has made him a key resource person in the development of curriculum for Islamic banking and finance programs in Nigeria.
Dauda Adeyinka Asafa is a Senior Research Specialist and a member of the Secretariat of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB). He joined the IFSB in December 2016 and has successfully managed several projects including working papers for the takaful sector and Macroprudential policy tools in Islamic finance. In addition, he has participated in the processes leading to the development of a number of prudential supervisory standards focusing on the takaful sector. The latest among them is the (IFSB-28) Revised Standard on Solvency Requirements of Takaful which was adopted by the Council of IFSB in December 2023. He is also a member of the IFSB IFSI Financial Stability Report drafting team, focusing mainly on the takaful section.
Dr Dauda Asafa received his PhD from the International Islamic University Malaysia, Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance. Prior to this, he earned a Master of Science degree from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
Michael J. McCord is one of the world’s leading experts in developing and managing microinsurance products. His decades of experience include working as controller of a U.S. commercial bank, chief executive officer of a microfinance institution in Uganda, and regional director for microfinance programs in Africa with FINCA International.
In 2000, Michael founded the MicroInsurance Centre (now the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman), an internationally recognized thought leader and implementer of microinsurance and risk management solutions. The MIC@M’s vision is to provide three billion low-income people across the world with access to valuable microinsurance and risk management solutions.
Michael is a highly respected voice in the microinsurance field, working in the areas of research, advocacy, and development of microinsurance products and processes that meet the unique needs of low-income clients. He is a founding member of the Microinsurance Network, where he served as chair of the board from 2015 – 2016, and a member of the steering committee for the Munich Re Foundation / Microinsurance Network annual conference on inclusive insurance. In 2015, Michael served as head of the Microinsurance Working Group for the Asia-Pacific Financial Forum (APFF). He is a current member of the United Nations Capital Development Fund’s (UNCDF) Climate Insurance Linked Resilient Infrastructure Finance (CILRIF) Working Group, and a member of the Insurance Development Forum’s (IDF) Inclusive Insurance Working Group. The MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman is an organizational member of the InsuResilience Global Partnership. Michael is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Risk and Insurance Studies Centre’s (RISC) Diploma in Risk and Insurance Management at York University and serves on the Editorial Board of the Bangladesh Insurance Journal.
Michael has worked in over 75 countries, leading consulting projects focused on various risks that low-income clients face. Recent work includes designing and piloting holistic risk management solutions for smallholders in Ethiopia, Georgia and Pakistan as well as advising on remittance-linked microinsurance programs under contract for the IFAD-funded grant project ‘Managing risks for rural development: promoting microinsurance innovations’ (MRRD).
Mohammed Bashir-Yunusa is a seasoned financial technology professional with over 13 years’ experience. Over the years, Mohammed has garnered extensive knowledge by specializing in deal structuring, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and retail finance, business strategy, digital transformation, and non- interest banking operations.
He has effectively handled high-level financial transactions in a variety of sectors, including transportation, investment, e-commerce, agriculture, infrastructure, and renewable energy, throughout his more than a decade experience working in the financial services sector.
With his extensive experience and a thorough understanding of the economic and business landscape in the financial sector, one of his key achievements in his career is pioneering the launch of The Alternative Bank one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing non-interest banks. Mohammed’s expertise in finance and banking played a huge factor in ensuring that the non-interest arm of Sterling Bank, successfully morphed into The Alternative bank, while continuing to record astounding successes year in, and year out. Additionally, his contribution has further pushed the frontiers of financing models.
Mohammed prides himself in being an innovative disruptor as he specializes in creating disruptive and innovative digital business models and solutions. Notable of such digital solutions is launching Nigeria’s first credit-based e-commerce platforms, investment and payment apps and an array of various innovative solutions.
He graduated with distinction from an accounting diploma program, and he also holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Administration (Finance) both from Ahmadu Bello University. He furthered his studies by earning an MSc in Strategic Planning from Heriot-Watt University and possesses numerous executive qualifications, most recently a Post graduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. He is presently enrolled in the Global Executive Management in Business Administration (GEMBA) program at IESE Business School.
Beyond the confines of his 9-5 role, Mohammed is a proponent of socioeconomic fairness. He is committed to increasing the rate of employment while also improving the social well-being of the unemployed by exploring innovative channels to have a good effect on his community’s economy.
Mohammed presently oversees a team that is upending the financial technology sector as the Director of Innovations and Digital Business Solutions at The Alternative Bank.
Registrar/CEO, Secretary To Council Mrs. Abimbola Tiamiyu, M.A.S, M.Sc, FIIN
Abimbola Omowunmi TIAMIYU started her Insurance Career with Great Nigeria Insurance Plc over two decades ago as an underwriter from where she rose to her current position as the Registrar/CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
She has a Bachelors’ Degree in Mathematics from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, a Masters’ Degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State and equally holds a Master of Science (Risk Management and Insurance) from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and has attended numerous trainings and seminars both home and abroad.
She has served in various committees and sub-committees in the Nigerian Insurance Industry and is currently a Faculty Member at the College of Insurance, Asese, Ogun State, a Faculty Member of Financial Institute Training Centre (FITC) on Risk Management and Insurance and the Secretary, Market Development & Government Relations Sub-Committee of the Insurance Industry Committee. She is a Certified International Labour Organisation (ILO) on Micro/Inclusive Insurance and UNDP trained faculty on Climate Disaster and Risk Financing.
Mrs. Tiamiyu’s passion for sharing knowledge has seen her facilitate numerous trainings and seminars within and beyond the insurance industry.
Rilwan Sunmonu is a Chartered Insurer with over two decades of extensive experience in the Nigerian insurance market. He holds a graduate degree in Insurance, complemented by a Master’s in Managerial Psychology from the University of Ibadan, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Finance from Nungu Business School, Lagos, which he successfully completed in 2020.
Sunmonu embarked on his insurance journey at Allison Insurance Brokers in January 1999, later transitioning to pivotal roles at Hallmark Assurance Plc (now Consolidated Hallmark) and Royal Exchange PLC. Notably, during his tenure at Royal Exchange, he ascended through various positions, ultimately assuming the esteemed role of Head of Manufacturing and Conglomerate.
His tenure at Royal Exchange PLC spanned several years of dedicated service.
In March 2019, Sunmonu joined Noor Takaful Insurance Limited, bringing with him a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Directors, a testament to his commitment to professional development.

Dr. Abdussalam is a professor of Islamic Economics and finance. He has great experience in both practical and Academic research in Islamic economics and Fintech. He holds doctorate degree from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM, 2005) in Islamic economics law (Shariah law). He is currently MD/CEO of Qitmeer Smart Management Consultancies and Adjunct Professor at Hamdan bin Muhammed Smart University, School of Business and management. He held the position of Senior Manager at Noor Islamic Bank in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Before joining Noor Bank as Senior manager, He worked in Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) in Malaysia responsible for managing Shariah regulatory and prudential issues in IFSB Standards, guiding principles & Technical Guidelines. He was a pioneer of the Arabic editing committee of IFSB standards and publications and was involved in assessing Sukuk structures (Islamic Bonds) for the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM). He was also in charge of coordinating seminars and training to facilitate the implementation of the IFSB standards. He was awarded Certified Islamic finance Professional (CIFP), and Certified Online Educator 2.0 (COE) from Hamdan bin Muhammed Smart University (HBMSU) Dubai, UAE.
Prof. Abdussalam is a distinguished recognized expert in the philosophy of Financial Technology (fintech) and Islamic finance, with a unique blend of academic and professional practice experience in international organizations, universities, expert Shariah Auditor, and demonstrated competence in driving excellence in Fintech Shariah advisory in developing products, a consultant on Shariah assurance and audit services, applicable Islamic finance use cases for fintech, market research, quality professional training services, and ethics assuring comprehensive Shariah considerations.
Prof. Abdussalam has written and published seven books and presented more than 40 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences around the world, including Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Nigeria, China, Bangladesh, India, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. He has years of experience working with important financial institutions, universities, and international organisations as a Shariah expert consultant.
A seasoned Chartered Accountant with 30 years of experience, Isma’ila is the Managing Partner of Ahmed Zakari & Co. He leads a team of 50+ professionals, offering comprehensive accounting, audit, taxation, and advisory services. He is actively engaged in the global accounting community, serving on the IFAC Board since 2019. He has also served as the former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He brings extensive expertise to his role as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee at Noor Takaful Insurance Limited.
Bukola Ifemade is an astute insurance professional with deep passion for deploying insurance as a socio-economic tool for families and businesses. Her most passionate focal point is insurance penetration in Nigeria.
She has Bachelors and Masters’ Degrees in Actuarial Science. A member of Chartered Insurance Institute of UK, Associate Member of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers. She is a Certified Lead Auditor in ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 22000:2018
Bukola has over three decades experience in the insurance industry and worked with top insurance companies including AXA Mansard and NSIA insurance as an Executive Management staff and IGI where she joined the industry in 1992. She is the pioneer Managing Director of Orthodox Insurance Brokers which began operations in 2006 and an advocate of important role of Broker in the insurance value chain. She has been an active member of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), where she was a past Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, former Board member of the Council and She is currently serving on various National committees of the Council.
Nabilah Usman is a broadcast journalist and Head of Programmes at Radio Now 95.3fm. She co-hosts the morning drive-time show Now Breakfast. She is also the host of Pivotal, a monthly television programme on solutions to national issues produced by Daria Media.
She worked as the Associate Producer on the presidential town hall series, The Candidates 2023, and Open Square, a regional series that brought national legislators and constituents together on topical legislative issues.
Nabilah has worked in Kaduna and Abuja. Her journalism is governed by a drive for public service, enlightenment and accountability.
She co-edited Twaweza, an anthology of 24 creative nonfiction stories by young African writers.
She currently serves on the board of The Centre for Climate Action, Innovation and Engagement.
Mr. Mounir Bouba joined ARM Investment Managers in November 2022 as an executive director (ED) with oversight of the Manager’s Investment unit, retail and institutional asset management and operations units. At ARM, he is responsible for various investment products which includes Sharia and Ethically compliant Mutual Funds and tailored private products.
He has over 26 years of cumulative experience in managing various asset classes in Paris, London, Madrid, and Lagos.
He began his career at CIC-CM in 1998 in Paris as a Structured Products Trader managing complex Derivatives multi-asset products with risks associated to Fixed Income, FX, Equities, and Commodities.
Within a space of eight years, he became the team lead of nine traders and the overall trading desk.

Momodou Musa Joof is simply a household name in the West African insurance industry, having worked at various levels for over 35 years and made significant contributions to its development. Prior to joining Jaiz Takaful Insurance Plc, Nigeria in 2016 as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, he had been pioneer MD/Chief Executive Officer of the Takaful Gambia Ltd, which he founded as the first Takaful Company in West Africa. Momodou established the Takaful window for Phoenix Assurance of Zambia as Chief Operations Officer after he had worked for the Gambia based insurance companies including Senegambia Insurance, Gamstar and Great Alliance Insurance Company Limited, all at managerial levels between 1992 and 1993.
Momodou Musa Joof holds a Master’s Degree in Management from the International Islamic University of Malaysia, which he bagged in 2005 after successfully completing an impressive dissertation on Takaful Titled “A Proposed Model for Islamic Insurance (Takaful) in the Gambia.” Mr. Joof also authored another book titled ’Evolution and Revolution of Takaful in West Africa and Beyond’. In addition to the higher degree, he is a 1991 Diploma in Insurance Underwriting holder from West African Insurance Institute, Monrovia, Liberia. Earlier in life, young Momodou was a pupil of Farafenni Primary School, Saint Peter’s High School and Gambia Technical Training School, all in the Gambia.
As an enthusiastic professional, he went through rigorous technical trainings on Takaful Insurance in Takaful Malaysia and Alhuda Center of Islamic Banking and Economics, Pakistan where he obtained a Certified Takaful Professional Diploma.
His high technical skills in conventional insurance practices were acquired from such rated avenues like State Insurance Corporation of Ghana (1993), Management Development Institute, the Gambia (1998), African Information Technology, Nairobi, Kenya (1998), American International Insurance Company, Nigeria (1999), Lead way Assurance, Nigeria (1999), Africa Reinsurance Corporation, Nigeria (1999) and University of California, Riverside University Extension, USA (2000).
He has held various positions in several professional bodies and institutes including as a Treasurer (Insurance Association of the Gambia), Board Member (British Education Agency – Gambia), Vice President (ECOWAS Brown Card), President (International Islamic University Alumni-Gambia Chapter), visiting Lecturer (West African Insurance Institute) and the Chairman (Gambia Medical Underwriters Committee).
Mr. Momodou continues to share his experiences and expertise within the West African sub-region by traveling to attend workshops and seminars on Islamic Finance and granting attachment practical training to people from the various countries. He has also participated as a speaker on International Takaful fora including the International Takaful Forum (London 2012) and World Takaful Conference (Dubai 2013), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ethipia, Adiss Ababa, Islamic Finance Forum, Dakar, Senegal (2022).
For his demonstrated formidable passion for the development of Islamic Finance and Takaful (Islamic Insurance) in particular, Mr. Momodou was awarded the Best Takaful Contributor at the 2016 Global Islamic Finance Forum held in Nairobi, Kenya.

Momodou, a Senior Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (2017), was conferred with a Fellow by the Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals of Nigeria in 2017 and Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration (2017). He was bestowed with the African Leader Par Excellence Award and the Title Accolade Ambassador in 2017 making him to be recognized and his name registered in the Compendium of Distinguished Role Models in Nigeria (as per the Nigerians Role Models book Vol 2 P.40).
